The Perfect Match Up: Cigar City Brewing & Sustain Restaurant + Bar

Cigar City Event MenuWhat are you doing on August 24th? After glancing at the food & beer pairing offered by Cigar City Brewing & Sustain Restaurant + Bar, my bet is  that your ass will be planted in a seat in Sustain’s dining room. Voted Best Restaurant in the Design District for 2011, Sustain totes a delicious and truly local menu that always pleases (the fried chicken and key lime creme brulee are something special, and their pizza-esque bloody mary is a great spin on the classic). Their creative, intelligent cuisine can only be made better by being paired with beers that are on par.  Cigar City Brewery will certainly rise to meet that challenge. Brewed in Tampa, FL, these guys are all about creative hops – Oatmeal Raisin Cookie, Xenu Honey Cream Ale, Guava Grove, and Puppy’s Breath Porter (surely tasting nothing like a Puppy’s Breath, or at least I hope not…) are just a few beers that this company produces. These guys not only focus on the art of brewing, but they also realize the importance of a beer pairing nicely with food. In fact, they create many of their beers with the intention that they will go perfectly with cuban dishes. These beers are special, and they ordinarily do not come cheap. Just a few days ago, I saw a bottle of a Cigar City Brewery beer being offered for $18 at The Local (Cigar City Improvisacion & Papaya IPA), with their draft Maduro Brown Ale for $6. For $50 plus tax/grat, this food & beer pairing means that not only will you get delicious food created by Sustain for a steal, but you’ll also get to try 6 beers at a fraction of the cost. Intrigued? You should be. This pairing is reservation only, and I’m sure the seats are going fast. RSVP’s can be made to info@sustainmiami.com. -Stefanie
