After our lunch of BBQ bacon cheeseburgers, herbed french fries, homemade sodas, and toasted marshmallow shakes at Good Stuff Eatery & We, The Pizza, we were beyond stuffed. So we went to Baked & Wired for cupcakes. Duh.
{One of many amazing desserts on display at Baked & Wired, all of which were accompanied by cute, hand-drawn signs}
The Tessita cupcake was my first choice.
Until I saw this one: Menage a Trois, chocolate cake & raspberry filling with cream cheese frosting. Although I found the cake itself to be a teeeeeny bit dry, the top had developed the sugar crust that only the most indulgent frostings can. You know, the sugar crust. Where, after sitting out for a little while, the sugar crystals in the frosting start to harden and form the lightest version of a hard exterior which immediately dissolves when it hits your tongue. Upon cracking, it gives way to a creamy, airy, not overly sweet, and better with every bite cream cheese frosting. It was that good. The raspberry filling, aka raspberry jam, combined with crumbly chunks of chocolate cake was utterly yummy.
{Strawberry Cupcake with Vanilla Buttercream}
If I were a Barbie, I would eat this pretty, pink, strawberry cupcake everyday. Luckily, I was with the closest thing I have to a Barbie: my tall, blonde, tan friend. She obviously ordered this cupcake and I obviously tasted it. Vanilla cake with fresh strawberries folded in the batter, finished with a swirl of pink buttercream and sparkly sprinkles. The cake tasted, well, cute. It was fruity and summery, and the buttercream added the perfect amount of richness. Personally, I think a little lemon zest in the batter would kick up the freshness and add a much-needed layer of citrusy tang. Otherwise, it was great.
In addition to cupcakes, Baked & Wired is known for their awesome, awesome coffee.
{Tea & Coffee on tap: Passion & Envy Green tea with Passion fruit, Peach Nectar Tea, Iced Coffee, and Lemonade}
{The pour-over process. I made him re-do the pour 5 times to get a good picture. What a trooper}
{The cool coffee bar}
{The delicious iced coffee that didn’t need any sugar. Yes, really}
{The Aftermath: Note, the to-go bag with another cupcake} The place was really cool. Baked & Wired was full of hipsters seated on the plush leather chairs, stealing wireless, eating cupcakes. Just kidding. Wireless is free (hence the name ‘Wired’, which I incorrectly assumed was attributed to the caffeinated coffee bar). The people who work there were all really nice and didn’t seem to mind when I pressed my face on each glass cupcake display. If you find yourself in the Georgetown area, skip the line Georgetown Cupcakes (gasp) and mosey over to this quiet spot with giant desserts and impressive coffee.
